No plan to layoff employees in COVID Situation : says Wipro Chairman
Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji has no plans to layoff a single employee at Wipro due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has planned for cost reductions through various operational means to survive and the future is expected to be a hybrid model, Wipro Chairman said in the company’s 74th Annual General Meeting(AGM) which was conducted virtually on Monday.
Since the company has started to let their employees to do work from home at the initial stage of the corona attack in india on March, now 95% of wipro employees are doing work from home globally.
Many IT companies has started to laid off the employees since the business slowed down, especially who are all in the bench due to the lack of projects. Wipro has the major market base in US, which has contributed around 59.1% to the company’s total revenue for the year 2020.
Premji said that the wipro is safe as it has hired 70% employees in the US itself as the US president Donald Trump’s decision to put a ban on H-1B visa. In future, the company is going to invest in digital and cloud technologies meanwhile they have significantly implemented virtual remotes, distributed works since the IT companies in India and globally struggles with the lack of projects during the coronavirus pandemic
