Covid-19 pandemic has hit hard on the IT parks in Chennai. In the past 2 months due to Work from home (WFH) and cost cutting, companies vacated nearly 8 lakh square foot of office space<\/strong>. A few other companies have also shifted their office to a more convenient location.
IT fields are experiencing the greatest change in the past months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vacated companies in Chennai :<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  • Unimoni Global Business Services (Manapakkam)<\/li>
  • Auto parts maker Wabco (Taramani)<\/li>
  • Online matchmaker Bharatmatrimony (Adyar and MRC Nagar)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Plans made by companies :<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    • The companies have made plans to move into a hybrid model of office <\/strong>with a remote setup<\/strong> in a few quarters where it is safe to work.<\/li>
    • Decisions regarding the models which may suit good for a safe and convenient working<\/strong> need to be taken soon.<\/li>
    • For now, many companies have moved to Work from Home <\/strong>(WFH) mode and a number of companies have relocated to other offices<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Impact of IT parks being swept off :<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      Warehousing<\/strong>, data centers<\/strong> and e-commerce <\/strong>companies have increased their interest in taking up more space in the forthcoming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Loss :<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
      • Real estate sector<\/strong> will be affected badly.<\/li>
      • Residential and commercial complex projects will be modified.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        COVID – 19 pandemic opened new possibilities :<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
        • Working from anywhere<\/strong> is being achieved and everyone is adapting to work from their own place.<\/li>
        • Opportunities for companies to hire people from any part of the country\/globe<\/strong> without the need to shift to Chennai or the work place has crept in.<\/li>
        • Travel hours for the employees have been cut down currently which increases productivity<\/strong>. This also reduces the traffic congestion.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          • Employees feel WFH mode is better as it reduces the cost of living.<\/strong><\/li>
          • Companies stated that they have started to reinvest savings in talent<\/strong> for the growth of the company.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
