Will Final year exams be conducted or cancelled? – Supreme Court next hearing on July 31

Supreme court issues notice to UGC final year exams

Supreme court has accepted the petition filed by 31 students against the revised UGC guidelines to conduct the final examinations for final year students. The nest hearing is scheduled by July 31.

Earlier made Decisions:

On July 7, the UGC said that the end semester examinations for all the final year students are mandatory to be conducted either in online or offline mode by end of September, 2020.

Demand by the petitioners and the students:

  • Petitioners like Yuvan Sena have demanded the UGC to allow individual state governments to pass the final year students based on their previous semester performance (internal assessment and past semesters)
  • In the light of Covid – 19 health crisis, the petitioners said UGC, that it is not necessary to conduct the exams.
  • UGC also warned against violating the orders and if the decision is not accepted it would be leading to risk of future students.

Decision will be taken after consulting the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Students have been protesting against the conduction of final year exams amidst the Covid – 19 pandemic for a long time. On the other hand, without exams degrees can also not be awarded to the students. Let’s hope that a good decision will be taken by the government considering the pandemic and also the future of the students.
